A recent international research expedition has found species of molluscs, crustaceans, echinoderms and fish that may be new to science in the deep waters off Bohol. As they discover specimens formerly regarded as 'rare' to 'very rare' (including those previously thought not to be found in the Philippines or even in the Southeast Asian biogeographic zone), scientists are repeatedly amazed at the country's vast marine resource.

The region containing all the islands between Luzon and Mindanao is referred to as the Visayas, which is at the heart of the Philippine archipelago. Cebu City, known as the Queen City of the South, is the region's international gateway and provides for all connections to the most exciting dive spots.
